Suzuki Cello Lessons

Suzuki-style cello lessons are most suited for beginning students ages 3.5–7. John Kaboff has trained extensively at all 10 book levels with master Suzuki teacher trainers. The philosophy centers on parent responsibility, loving encouragement, and constant repetition as the foundation for musical growth.

Parent Involvement

Parents attend lessons and serve as home teachers during the week, reinforcing teaching points verbally to create a consistent, enjoyable learning environment.

Early Beginning

The early years are crucial for developing mental processes and muscle coordination. Formal training may begin from age 3.5 onward.

Listening

Listening to music every day is essential — especially pieces in the repertoire books — so that students can make their hands recreate what they have heard and can sing.

Repetition

Constant repetition is essential. Repeating each note, group of notes, and technical points will reinforce skill and gradually allow growth into new levels.

Encouragement

Each child's effort is met with sincere praise. Each child learns at his or her own rate, building on small steps. Children are encouraged to support each other.

Group Learning

In addition to private lessons, children participate in group lessons designed as a chamber music experience — learning to blend different musical parts.
